My Life (High School Band) and Other Tidbits: Horses

Horses are a big part of my life! I collect model horses, draw horses, and ride them when I have time. I've only ridden off a lead line 3 or 4 times, one of them being in the Sawtooth Wilderness of Idaho. It was amazingly picturesque, being able to look out over the mountains- and sitting on the back of a horse at the same time, of course! The other times I've ridden by myself have been in a closed arena. Although I can't ride that often, I keep up with equestrian event, the biggest of which is the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred racing in May and June. Another big race that I look forward to every year is the Santa Anita Handicap, run in March. This year the racing community was fortunate enough to see another winner of the Triple Crown, American Pharaoh! Even though the Pharaoh has not won every single one of his starts, he's still a great champion and deserves our respect.

American Pharaoh is such a pretty deep bay color- bay means brownish-red with black legs- and this is why I'm really looking forward to Breyer's model of him! Breyer makes very nice models of many equine champions, including racehorses, jumpers, Olympic horses, dressage horses, and others. I've already expanded my collection to include several of them. I'm also just getting into customizing these models, but seeing as I don't have many customizable-quality models, I haven't done much with this yet.

Other than collecting model horses, riding when I have time, and following equine sports, I read books about horses and perfect my drawing techniques. Here are some pics.
